Ever have one of those moments where you look back to an earlier time in your business where you were going through an internal meltdown of feeling like your company was doomed… and just laugh?
That happened to me this weekend…
I was driving home from running some errands, which is admittedly one of my favorite activities, and my mind started to wonder back to the day I set up my online credit card processing.
If you have ever done this before, which I imagine most of the entrepreneurs in my world have, during the process of applying for an online credit card processing account they ask you about your expected transaction amounts.
So when the sales man, who I hadn’t known prior, asked me that question, I said confidently, “Anywhere from $47 for an online program up to $5k for a day of consulting.”… because, you know, that was what I planned on.
I’ll never forget what he said next…
“I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but who would pay you $5k for a day of consulting?”
SQASH. That confidence I had just one second ago was now gone.
In just a seconds time, I went from feeling like I was on top of the world and excited for my new business to feeling like a total loser!
I felt like my business plan sucked.
I felt like I sucked.
And I felt like I was now going to be the biggest business failure ever.
If this guy wouldn’t hire me for $5k a day, who would?! (Hehe – Funny how we all sometimes think when we are upset).
Fast forward a few months, I hired a business coach who believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself, followed the plan she gave me to a “T”, and sold 7 consulting days for $7k each, and even 1 for $10k.
And it was awesome! Sooooo awesome!
Why am I telling you this? It’s most certainly not to brag. It’s because…
I know sometimes stuff comes up in your business that makes you feel defeated and like you’ll never get to your goal. Especially from well meaning people, many who aren’t business owners themselves, who just don’t know better when it comes to the advice they give, or their feedback to what you do.
And you shouldn’t feel that way… because your brilliant at what you do, AND with the right plan and your commitment to putting in the work, you have the opportunity to really rock it.
So as you start your week I wanted to give you a little reminder to:
1) Never give up, no matter what anybody says.
There are so many GREATS who wouldn’t be greats if they didn’t possess resilience. Take J.K. Rowling for example who received loads of rejections before Harry Potter became a success. What would have happened if she had given up?
So when stuff gets hard, remind yourself of the catchy phrase my dad taught me when I was growing up: “Glazer’s Never Give Up!” (Just insert your own last name when you need the reminder 🙂
2) Surround yourself with like minded supportive people who believe in you, especially on those days when you don’t believe in yourself. A mentor, family, friends, significant other, colleagues, and even other like minded business owners. I have found that this is one of the easiest things you can do as part of making sure you have a good foundation for success.
This is going to be a great week! I can feel it!
Have the best damn day (and week) ever!
